Electric Sheep, a London-based startup that develops AI-powered visual effects tools, has raised £393k (~$500k) in an oversubscribed pre-seed funding round. The round was led by Dasein Capital, with participation from Spatial Capital and Look AI Ventures.
Electric Sheep's flagship product is Spotlight, an AI rotoscoping tool that can automatically remove backgrounds from video footage. Rotoscoping is a time-consuming and labor-intensive process that is typically done manually by VFX artists. Spotlight uses AI to automate the process, making it much faster and easier to remove backgrounds from video.
The funding will be used to further develop Spotlight and expand the company's team. Electric Sheep is targeting the film and television industry, as well as the gaming and advertising industries. The company believes that its AI rotoscoping tool has the potential to revolutionize the way visual effects are created.
"We are excited to partner with Dasein Capital, Spatial Capital, and Look AI Ventures," said Gary Palmer, CEO of Electric Sheep. "Their investment will help us to accelerate the development of Spotlight and bring it to market."
"Electric Sheep is at the forefront of a new wave of AI-powered visual effects tools," said Steven Sullivan, Partner at Spatial Capital. "We are excited to support the company as it continues to grow and innovate."
Electric Sheep is not the only company developing AI rotoscoping tools. Other companies in this space include Synthesia and Imagineer Systems. However, Electric Sheep believes that its AI technology is more advanced than the competition.
"Our AI is trained on a massive dataset of video footage," said Palmer. "This allows us to accurately remove backgrounds even in complex scenes."
Electric Sheep is still in the early stages of development, but the company has already attracted the attention of some of the biggest names in the film and television industry. The company is working with several studios on projects that will use Spotlight.
"We are confident that Spotlight will have a major impact on the visual effects industry," said Palmer. "We are excited to see how it is used to create amazing new visuals."
